HNNCSB provides comprehensive crisis services for children, adolescents, and adults in Hampton and Newport News, Virginia. Their services include emergency counseling, respite, intervention, and short-stay stabilization. HNNCSB offers 24/7 response for psychiatric crises, assessing for immediate intervention and issuing temporary detention orders when necessary.
Emergency Services (ES)
HNNCSB’s Emergency Services operate 24/7, providing immediate psychiatric crisis response. They assess individuals for immediate intervention and can issue temporary detention orders (TDO) for those requiring mandated treatment in a psychiatric hospital.
Regional Crisis Stabilization Unit
This 11-bed residential facility serves as an alternative to inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. It offers rapid access to brief interventions through a multidisciplinary approach, including psychiatry, nursing, therapy, psychoeducation, and peer recovery support.
Forensic Services
HNNCSB provides restoration services for individuals found “Incompetent to Stand Trial.” These services may include education and treatment delivered in community or correctional settings, aiming to help individuals regain psychiatric stability.
Jail Diversion Services
HNNCSB collaborates with partners to identify individuals with serious mental illness in correctional custody for minor offenses. They offer alternative supporting and clinical services to these individuals.
Crisis Intervention Team (CIT)
HNNCSB provides a “Best Practice Model” of training for law enforcement and other first responder personnel. This training focuses on assisting individuals experiencing behavioral health crises.
Partnerships
Behavioral Health Dockets (BHD)
HNNCSB partners with Hampton and Newport News General District Courts for separate dockets. These non-adversarial approaches address the needs of individuals with serious mental illness who have become involved in the criminal justice system.
Core Approach
HNNCSB’s core approach focuses on immediate intervention, community-based care, and diversion from unnecessary hospitalization or incarceration. They emphasize rapid access to services, multidisciplinary care, and collaboration with law enforcement and the judicial system to provide comprehensive support for individuals in crisis.
